Terps Bounce Back Winning Home Opener 8-3 Over Navy

Maryland scored six runs in the third inning off two-run base hits by Korey Wacker, Tim Kiene and Curtis Lazar, Michael Boyden went four strong innings on the mound and Maryland defeated Navy 8-3 Wednesday afternoon at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.

Boyden allowed just a single run on four hits while striking out four without issuing a walk. Navy took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but Maryland kept within striking distance when Boyden got Navy center fielder Alex Azor to ground into a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning.

The Terps batted around in the bottom half of the third and got six runs on five hits and three walks. Right fielder Charlie White led off with a single to center field, Jack Cleary followed with a bunt single and Alfredo Rodriguez drew a walk to load the bases. Wacker ripped a two-run double down the right field line to give the Terps a 2-1 lead and two batters later Kiene followed with a two-run single to right.  from umterps.com
