“I had just received my first scholarship offer from Maryland the week before, and I pretty much knew right then I was going to be a Terp,” said the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Petty. “But I wanted to talk to my parents first. So [on Sunday] we talked, and they asked me if I was happy with Maryland. I said I definitely was. And they were, too.” With that, Petty became the 11th Maryland commitment for the class of 2012. He is the fourth local recruit to pull the trigger on the Terps, joining Joe Riddle, Roman Braglio and Mike Madaras.
“I love Maryland,” Petty said. “It’s a great school for academics, and sports-wise they have a good football team and a good basketball team, so that’s nice. Then they play in a big conference – the ACC – and it’s a chance to play Division-I football.”
