Before I start, I surely am thinking about Andrew Gonella who suffered a seemingly disastrous leg injury and had to be taken off the field by ambulance. He’s a great kid, who loves Maryland with all he has.
Let’s start with the good—the defense looked superb today. GT came into the game averaging almost 50 points a game–not todayonly 2 TD drives. Joe Vellano has 20 tackles including 14 solos. AJ Francis, had 9, and David Mackall seemed like he was in the backfield all day.
The Bad was the Terps passing attack. It was virtually non-existent. For the Terps to win, Danny is going to have to come out of his funk. Question for the week is will Randy stay with CJ who gallaoped for 128 yards. But CJ’s passing was suspect. I can’t figure out whats wrong with Danny. The 2nd quarter interception caused Danny to be yanked.
The decision not to kick a FG on a 4th and 7 in the 3rd tailing 21-3 —loomed big after the game. 21-6 well I guess you can look at it in many ways.
Coach Johnson commented after the game: “As I say every week, 21 is more than 16 so that is what is important. I thought that defensively, other than a couple of plays, one in the first and one in the second, we really played well. Offensively we struggled, never got any continuity. It was a myriad of things, and we will have to watch the tape, but we didn’t do very many good things today. It was like popcorn trying to get it fixed. We had a chance to hit some big plays early in the passing game, and we missed them again. We really struggled. But you have to give them credit, their kids played hard, their defensive tackle (Joe Vellano) was all over the place. They whipped our tail pretty good in the end.”
Coach Edsall commented post game:“First of all, we’re saddened and upset about what happened to Andrew Gonnella. He’s been taken to Grady Medical Center and is being evaluated. I don’t know anything more than that at this point. If he can’t come back, he’s going to be sorely missed. He’s been a great leader for us, and a guy who loves the game of football. Now we just need to take a piece of him with us and go back out there and play for him. “We’re disappointed that we didn’t win the game today, but very pleased with how hard our guys played for 60 minutes. I thought, defensively, we played extremely well. Offensively, we were inconsistent, and we had a couple of breakdowns in the special teams. But again, we were pleased with how hard our guys played for 60 minutes.”
As I said on Terp Talk I thought it would be a close game. If you would have told me we would hold Tech to 21 points, I would have a guaranteed a W. We have to get Danny O”Brien back on track.

like a lot, shocked by teh final score. teh defense played very well. heck the shout out g t in the second half. but once again the team was listless for a lot of the game. o’brien looks lost. we now run a hurry up running offense. we have no passing game. how fast was brown going down the sidelines. he has sprinter speed. i would think they stay with c j at q.b. for now. take advantage of his speed.

why it makes sense to go with cj brown. he’s md’s fastest back. md’s outside receivers are not that good. dorsey is good but doesn’t have great size or great speed. the other guys are at best 3rd or 4th options on a good team. they are not prime time players. so you have to run the ball. meggett is a solid back but lacks breakaway speed. picket is fast but still needs to get bigger and tougher. adams is tough but is an inside power runner. brown can run faster than picket so you have to utilize that. and if you can run you can give your defense a break. of course brown has to improve his passing but it wasn’t like o’brien was tearing things up.
