Terps Hold on to 70-62 Win Over Cornell—2nd Season Starts Sunday Night

Some observations of a shaky 10th victory tonight:

Sean Mosley took the bull by the horns tonight and refused to let the Terps lose. Loose ball after loose ball, key defensive stops by #14 saved the day for Maryland. Sean led the Terps win 19 points tonight. I just hope he can continue to play so well when the team struggles.

Alex Len made 2 key buckets down the stretch but what I really liked was how Alex never takes a play off — the hustle save tonight was a key part of the win. Alex was 5-5 from the field and 5-6 from the kine. He had 9 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Pankey and Padgett were virtually invisible tonight.

Stogs was 6-16 tonight and Faust was 1-11. Yet we still won. By the way the Terps were up 28-5 at one point of the game.

Maryland cannot afford lapses in ACC play. In the 2nd half they actually went 10 minutes without scoring a field goal.

Coach Turgeon commented post game:

“We like to make it interesting, there’s no question about that. It was so easy for us early. We were hitting shots, we were executing, we were defending at a level we haven’t defended at this year, and it just came so easy for us.

“But we did what young teams do when [the game] is going easy. We just thought it was going to be easy the whole game and so we quit guarding, we quit chasing down loose balls, we started shooting quick, we got a little bit selfish, and turned the ball over. I was not going to call timeout in the first four minutes and that was more of just trying to help them grow up. I said even if it costs us the game, I kept telling my coaches `I’m not calling timeout, they’ve got to get themselves out of it.’ We couldn’t figure out how to get out of our rut.
