The chance for Maryland to land Wes Brown had seemingly passed long ago.
The Terps’ 2-10 season removed them from contention for the Good Counsel running back’s services, and in November it was reported that he was down to Colorado, Michigan, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.
But between then and now, Maryland replaced offensive coordinator Gary Crowton with Washington native and ace recruiter Mike Locksley, and the Terps suddenly found themselves right back in the mix for Brown. On Thursday night at the Under Armour All-America Game in St. Petersburg, Fla., Brown revealed that he is headed to “the University of Maryland.”

“[I wanted to] just stay at home with my mom, make sure everything is good back home, not going too far so she won’t have to worry,” Brown said. “My support is back home.”
Brown, a four-star running back, picked the Terps over Vanderbilt and Miami. He also claimed offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Colorado, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, according to Rivals.com. The recruiting website ranks Brown as the No. 6 player in Maryland, the No. 17 running back nationally and the No. 249 senior prospect in the country.
