Valiant Effort Falls Short as Terps Drop First ACC Game 79-74 To NC State

Anxiously awaiting Wednesday night–here is my take on Sunday’s game

Moral victories stink but I’ll take this one. The Terps continued to have those spells of no offense but basically they fought to the end, and kept the game very close. there was not an ounce of quit on the court.

Len, Stoglin and Moseley had the 49 I thought it would be necessary to win but PeShon and Nick were quiet scoring. Alex had a double double (12,11) but he was clearly gassed in his 31 minutes. Len was 5-7 and Turgeon must future a way to get him the ball. Pe Shon did have 8 assists and only 3 turnovers today.

Padgett was aggressive around the bucket but failed to finish a few snowbirds or as Coach Turgeon calls them–bunnies.

Pankey and Beren were a combined 0-2 in 20 minutes.

Nick hit a nice 3, was in foul trouble and only played 12 minutes.

In the 2012 acc schedule this is the only time we play NC State—-that’s a shame because we know the middle of the road guys will play much better at home.

9-21 from the 3 point line and we lost–ouch

The one real problem I seeis that as Stoglin goes so go the Terps. It’s worrisome that when he has an off day and it is bound to happen –who will pick up the slack. But let’s remember this was on the road –it’s our first ACC game, it’s our first road game–it is only Alex’s 4th game–this is a work in process with a tremendous coach leading the way—i can’t wait until Wednesday!!

excelent effort by maryland. free throw shooting, boxing out on the defensive boards must improve. we just don’t have enough basketball players. in other words , guys with skills to play the game. pankey is a waste which is sad because we need his size. weiijs isn’t a d 1 player. what was gary thinking bringing these 2 guys in. parker needs more minutes because he is athletic and starting to show some ability. but this team will improve as the year goes on.
