Jake Layman Leads Team USA U 18 To Gold Medal Game

SAO SEBASTIÁO DOS PARAISO, Brazil Incoming freshman forward Jake Layman scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds and added two assists as the USA dropped Argentina 107-72 Tuesday afternoon in the semifinals of the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Men in Sao Sebastiáo dos Paraiso, Brazil.

Layman shot 3-of-6 from the field, 2-of-4 from behind-the-arc, and added a steal and a blocked shot. After Tuesday night’s performance, Layman ranks fifth on the team in scoring averaging 9.5 points per game.

It is the second time in the last three games Layman has scored in double figures. Against Mexico on Sunday, Layman led all scorers with a game-high 18 points as the USA dominated Mexico 110-59.

The USA improved to 4-0 in the competition and advanced to Wednesday’s gold medal game. The gold medal contest will be a rematch of Monday’s USA-Brazil game, a game in which the USA walked away with an 83-64 victory. Brazil advanced after handing Canada its first loss of the tournament by a 66-62 margin.

Jake’s family is from Harford county and watched the games from Brazil on the net with his aunt.
Jake has not been getting the playing time since the 18 pt game. Don’t know why, other than the difficult schedule of playing so many games, 6, in a compacted week.
Lot of ball for ones so young, and Jakes is still building his strength back after surgery.
