Maryland senior defensive lineman Joe Vellano on Thursday was named to the watch lists for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy and the Outland Trophy.
The Nagurski Trophy is given annually to the nation’s best defensive player by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the Charlotte Touchdown Club; the Outland Trophy is given to the best interior lineman in college football and includes 71 players, just 18 of which are defensive tackles. It is selected by the FWAA.
Five finalists for the Nagurski Trophy will be selected on Nov. 15, and the winner will be presented Dec. 3 in Charlotte, N.C.,
The Outland Trophy is chosen from three finalists who are part of the FWAA All-America Team. After the three finalists are named on Nov. 19, the trophy will be awarded on The Home Depot College Football Awards show Dec. 6 on ESPN. from umterps.com
