I just don’t know what anyone could have expected today. Here’s a kid, Shawn Petty–a linebacker–true a QB in high school but never recruited to play college QB. Incredible that he threw 2 TDs to Stefon who probably deserves Rookie of the Week for the 5th time.
In what I hope turns out to be a minor injury, Wes Brown left the game at the end of the first half with an ankle injury.
It was somewhat disappointing that Tech rushed for 370 yards against the #7 defense in the country. Tech has no passing game, infact Petty was more impressive throwing the ball. That’s why Tech is contemplating dumping Paul Johnson.
By the way Tom O’Brien and NC State were humiliated by UVA 33-6. I am sure he is hearing footsteps again.
Quotes from the new QB1 Shawn Petty
On learning terminology:
“I have picked up on most of it. Coach has been doing a good job of making sure I’ve got it down for the game.”
On what was most difficult:
“You just have to get used to the speed of the game. That’s the biggest difference. Playing my first college game when I was playing linebacker before this, the speed of the game was much faster so it took me a while to get up to speed.”
On what was different in the second half:
“I started feeling more comfortable in the second half. In the first half I was a bit antsy and the speed of the game was much faster then. I calmed down and played faster and let the game come to me.”
On his reaction when being told he’d start at quarterback:
“I was just ready to play. We play next man up so I had to be prepared to come today. Of course I can always do better and I plan on getting better. We are going to get better from here.”
On being a quarterback again:
“I always thought that I could play at the D1 level. Now I have my chance and I have to go prove it.”
On what he’ll work on moving forward:
“I need to make sure I slow down and make my reads.”
On being on the field with Stefon Diggs:
“He makes it a lot easier. You give him the ball and he makes you look good. He’s a big play-maker so you want the ball in his hands a lot.”
More to add as the night goes on.

you can only say good things about petty. i’m pretty sure his first snap at qb was his first play on the field this year. he got no help from the offensive line and the defense was horrible. they had one thing to do in this game…stop the run…and they couldn’t get the job done. highly overrated group. let’s face it, other than west va md hasn’t played a good team this year so the defensive stats are kinda misleading. vellano hurt his ankle and still played admirably. diggs continues to impress. the punting was bad.
tuesday is election day. vote. it’s a priviledge and your civic duty. once again not the greatest to choice from for president. obama who took over with the economy in its worst shape since the depression because of the banks greed and their “clever” packaging of a multitude of loans (derivatives) to sell to private investors and inheiriting a war which cost the country over 3 trillion though the previous chief excutive said the was would be paid for by the oil money. by the way the next dollar we get from the oil will be the first. so the big “o” champions health care rather than jobs. and not forming alliances with the other side of the aisle was plain stupid. that’s what you get when you have a chief of staff and a senate majority leadr who ar completley partisian. though he did bring an end to bush’s war of choice, kill bin laden and the private sector has seen an increase in jobs each month for 18 months or so. maybe more. but still not enough…and he did exactly the opposite of bush when dealing with a devastating hurricane…he showed up and helped. just ask republican chris christie, obama’s newest cheerleader. then we have romney. if you are in a group of tea party republicans romney will say and promise everything you want to hear. if you’re in a group of conservative republicans romeny will say and promise everything you want to hear and if you’re with a group of moderates romney will…well you get the picture. he reminds me of zelig. of course the first job of any politician is to get elected. romny’s statement that russia was the united stats’ biggst adversary was dead on, if this was the 1960’s and 70’s. and a while back on radio he said the u.s. should bomb iran before they develop the bomb but in the third debate he sounded like george mcgovern. also his comments about how he wants the navy to have mor ships even though the joint chiefs of staff have made no such request is disturbing. i think the last great naval battles were fought in the second world war. in other words 2 choices where most people will vote against someone rather than for someone. the biggest problem with this country is congress. i believe there should be term limits which would negate some of the influence th lobbyists have. a limit on how much you can spend to get elected and an independant panel to review and clear all advertising so the electorate hears the truth not a bunch of horse crap. did notice chrysler saying romney must be from a parallel universe regarding his statements about jeep. in a very close election those comments which every newspaper in michigan and northern ohio crushed romney and the hurricane which took romney out of action for a few days will be the difference in the election. if a candidate has an idea that is going to produce jobs he/she needs to spell out how they are going to do it some detail so people can make a better choice of which program makes sense to them. the presidential campaign was the worst i’ve ever seen. the country needs a strong third party. i’d rather see ross perot or pat paulsen in the white house.

by the way the uniforms yesterday were terrible looking. helmets..use the helmets that we had most of the 2000’s. white helmets with “terps” on the side. home. ..red jerseys white pants. road. white jerseys and red pants or black pants. use the pride uniforms if /when md gets a jousting team or goes into the taxi cab business.

Nice rant Fred, but the real problem is their is no independent journalist force to call out the candidates on the BS.
The media is now controlled by the big money and their selfish interests.
With billions being spent on campaigns, elections are now lost as profitable as wars, so the proliferation of so called competitive even races is in their best interests.
Fair and a lanced becomes the order of the day, and these lying hacks get away with literally murder.
Screw the best interests of the American people, we no longer have a meritocracy.
As always money rules.
