‘The Future is Now” 31 NBA Scouts Watch Alex Len At His Best—But Terps Fall to Cats 72-69

Remember this–Kentucky is probably the toughest team we will face all year. They got all of our effort but certainly none of our shooting. The Terps finished at 33% from the field. Any normal kind of shooting night and we would have wiped the floor with Noels and the bunch. for whatever reason we were content to let Kyle Wiltjer fire away and he burned us with 4 threes and 19 points.

Alex Len singlehandedly kept us in the game the first half and finished the game with with 23 points and a dozen rebounds.

The last play by PeShon was befuddling—Layman and Aronholt were wide open on the left but PeShon dribbled into oblivion, never even throwing up a prayer. Pe played a decent floor game , with 5 assists and only 2 turnovers but his 1-9 shooting hurt.

Nick played his typical aggressive, driving game winding up with 11 points and 3 assists. Looking for improvement on his outside shooting.

In 16 minutes Charles Mitchell had 10 rebounds and 4 points. I love his game!! The Trerps outrebounded Kentucky 54-38

Dez Wells had trouble penetrating between the trees of Kentucky and finished 2-12 but the best is yet to come for Dez.

Seth Allen played 25 minutes virtually at the point and hit 2 threes with 0 turnovers

The most heralded Freshman in the country, Nerlen Noels scored but 4 points in 26 minutes. He was totally schooled by Alex Len.

    Exciting game.
Felt that Coach forgot Layman at the end of the game. He is more athletic than Padgett and can defend and offers way more athletically.
The same with Allen over PeShon.
Need a penetrator at this level of competition.
PeShon is not the one at the point.
Obvious that the Terps were over excited in the bright lights to start the game.
Nick needs to get his game under control.
Team shines in an uptempo penetrating moving the ball. Also Len offers the first opportunity in years for inside to outside offense .
What is up with Shaq, is he the biggest apparent disappointment. He has disappeared.
Season looks to be exciting and fun to watch…

first the kid shabazz mohammad or something like that is the number one freshman.

about last night. first half other than len and the offensive rebounds the team was terrible. no effort on defense and no ball movement on offense besides the horrible shooting.

2nd half the defense picked up but the shooting and lack of passing hurt us. refs called a good game, missed a couple for each side so you can’t blame them.

shaq made one nice play getting down the floor for a dunk. good speed, good hands. to say he is a big disappointment is absurd. it’s the first game. how about dez wells 2-12 shooting. far more disappointing. as was everyone’s shooting other than len. actually padgett played prtty well. made his free throws.

md got beat by a smallest guy on the floor, a former walk-on and wiltjer who nobody guarded.
allen didn’t show much at point and spnt a good deal of time in the backcourt with howward so teh comment that he played almost all the time at point is incorrect. i’m not one of moral victories because we could and should have won this game.
nice to see albet king at the game. on the cover of s.i. as an 8th grader and number one h.s. player in the country who played great at md. his jr year at md was as good as it gets.

Fred, nice misrepresentation or misinterpretation of my post.
I was talking Terps not nationally about disappointing , disappearing Shaq.
Md didn’t get beat by anyone but themselves. Shooting 30% and missing, with the exception of a 10 minute stretch in the second half, so many open shots.
Yes Padgett made his free throws and certainly deserved to start as a senior in his hometown, I was talking looking forward that Layman is the more skilled of the 2. All in my opinion, not absolute.
We had the best player on the court in Len.
And can compete with anyone in the country .
And Shaq was the most visible and highest rated recruit and has apparently disappointed so far. He barely gets on the court, and made one play, as well as being benched in the first game, by the coach, not me. Of course it s early, I was just observing so far. This is the prerogative of any fan, I believe.
Never said that Allen played the whole game, again. I said that going forward he offers more than the slower less athletic PeShon.
This was a major first stage for our youngsters, none of him were considered top national recruits.
Wells us a transfer, not a freshman recruit.
    Outstanding prospects for this team.
Far cry from the Gary final years.
