Speechless in College Park—Bowling Green Rolls Over the Terps 48-27

Observations on an Extremely Disappointing Day at College Park:

Believe me you are never as bad as you look when you lose, nor are you as good as you look when you win.

Okay Perry Hills was not great today but he is taking way too much heat for this loss. I counted at least 5 drops by the receivers, a few of which were hard to fathom. Perry is not blocking for the running backs nor is he calling the offensive plays. Caleb came in and tossed 2 ints in 3 passes. Garman is still unknown. My guess is Daxx might get a shot next Saturday but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Perry start again.

What was shocking was how the secondary kept getting beat with almost the same plays. Lewis had 15 catches for 200 yards. That’s 15–really?

Early on it was clear that Bowling Green could just have their way with the defense. Though scoring only 6 points in the 1st half, they squandered many chances, missing 2 chip shot FGs and turning the ball over on 4th down failures. They finished with almost 700 yards and Matt Johnson tossed 6 TD passes—enough said.

Will Likely’s fumble when the Terps were up by 7, turned the game around but it was the off sides on 4th down that eliminated the interception, that was the back breaker. Of course Will gets a pass because he is probably the KEY to any victory the Terrapins will have this year.

Junior William Likely returned a punt for a touchdown for the second straight week, but Maryland fell to Bowling Green, 48-27, for its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.

Likely’s 85-yard punt return is tied for the second longest punt return in school history, matching the 85-yarder by Tony Logan against Florida International in 2010. The school record for the longest punt return belongs to Dick Nolan, who returned a punt 90 yards against Clemson in 1953

Senior Brad Craddock added a pair of first half field goals to give the Terps (1-1) a 13-6 lead over Bowling Green (1-1) at the half.

After a 55-minute weather delay pushed back the start of the third quarter, a 58-yard TD pass from Matt Johnson to Roger Lewis tied the game at 13-13 less than three minutes into the second half.

Maryland responded with a big play of its own to go back in front 20-13 when junior Perry Hills hooked up with D.J. Moore on a slant that the true freshman took 42 yards to the end zone.

The Terps looked to have stopped Bowling Green on its ensuing drive when Alvin Hill picked off a Johnson pass in the end zone, but an offside penalty on the Terps gave the Falcons a first-and-goal opportunity that Travis Greene converted into a score on the very next play to tie things at 20-20.

Bowling Green outscored the Terps 28-7 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory in the team’s first-ever meeting.

Johnson completed eight of 10 throws in the final frame, posting 134 yards and four touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

After the Falcons took their first lead of the game less than a minute into the fourth quarter, Maryland answered back with an 8-play, 75-yard scoring drive that was capped by a 22-yard TD pass from Hills to junior Levern Jacobs.

The Terrapins struggled down the stretch, turning the ball over on their final three drives.

Hills finished the game completing 15 of 30 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, while also compiling 94 yards on the ground on eight rushes.

Junior Yannick Ngakoue posted a career-high three sacks, while senior Sean Davis finished the game with 14 tackles to pace the Maryland defense.

another embarrassing loss. another meltdown. another game where the coaching staff doesn’t make adjustments. in other words another typical randy edsall coached team.

you can’t go from good to great until you become good and this program is closer to poor than average right now. it’s hard to imagine this team becoming close to good under the current coaching staff

Terps will finish no better than 4-8 this year, if that!
Hard to find many wins on their schedule.
