Just a few random comments on valiant effort at the Dean Dome
Anyway Carolina was pretty darn good Tuesday night, creating disruption on the Terrapin offensive side, and shooting lights out. Marcus Paige was spectacular. No way whatsoever the Heels win this game without Paige.
Melo was better however. #1 he could not get a call driving though I was not surprised. 23 points on 8-14 including 4-5 from the trey line and count em 12 assists
Sulaimon finished with 18 and 3 assists but could not land the jumper down the wire
Diamond was the only big to have a good game–9 pts and 5 rebounds in 21 minutes
Nickens did not have his hot hand going 2-6 on treys and closing with 6 points
Jake seemed a little lost out there tonight—8 rebounds highlighted his game
22 turnovers will never lead to victories
BUT–I only hope we get this team on a neutral court when it really matters. Note Carolina’s foul shooting was horrendous
Next Up Friday night against St Francis
freddy from boca
md 16 assists 22 turnovers
nc 22 assists-15 turnovers.
melo played really well but but but 8 turnovers is far far too many. he shot great most of the second half.
md very soft on defense particularly in the middle down low.
carter only played fair, too inconsistent ..layman did lead the team in rebounding but overall played poorly. just has never become the player he was expected to be. suliamon played well.
md. needed one more guy to step but no one did. nickens started hot but has troble creating his own shot. md doesn’t run a very good half court offense to take advantage of post play or you rarely see someone like nickens come around a screen for a catch and shoot.
brantly has been a big disappointment. team could use another ball handler.
not a bad loss, though. they played tough. staying in the game when it appeared they could get down big with so many turnovers.
too many open shots for nc and the tar heels had the home court which always helps.
most of the second half was like a game in late feb rather than dec 1
speaking of dec 1…dec 1 1973 md loses a heartbreaker to bill walton and ucla in first game of the year.
