Henningsen and Jared Bernhardt to Compete For USA in U-19 World Games

Maryland men’s lacrosse sophomore faceoff specialist Austin Henningsen and incoming freshman midfielder Jared Bernhardt are set to compete for the United States at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) U19 Men’s World Championships.

The tournament begins for the United States Thursday, July 7, with a showdown against rival Canada in Coquitlam, British Columbia at 10:30 ET.

“We are thrilled Austin and Jared will have the opportunity to compete at the World Championships and represent both the United States and the University of Maryland,” said head coach John Tillman. “This is a tremendous opportunity for both of them to gain experience at the international level and we wish them and Team USA the best of luck.”

Henningsen burst onto the national scene as a freshman this past season, most notably winning a career-high 19 faceoffs in a spectacular effort against North Carolina in the NCAA Championship game. He won a Maryland freshman record 151 faceoffs on the season and finished with a .590 win percentage.

Bernhardt, the younger brother of former Terrapins Jesse and Jake Bernhardt, just wrapped up a decorated career at Lake Brantley High School in Florida. Bernhardt totaled 236 goals and 198 assists at Lake Brantley, in addition to being named all-state on the gridiron as a quarterback. He was the Orlando Sentinel Boys Athlete of the Year for the 2015-16 school year.

The U.S. is one of 14 nations competing in this year’s championship. The U.S. is joined by Australia, Canada, England and the Iroquois Nationals in the Blue Division, and will play pool play games against each of those four nations. The playoffs begin on July 13 and the event concludes with the championship on July 16.

All 47 games from the event will be streamed live by SportsCanadaTV. Daily subscriptions are $8 (CDN) and the complete event package costs $45 (CDN). You can subscribe at worldlax.tv
