Four former members of the Maryland women’s lacrosse team were selected to the 15-player U.S. National Team that will compete in the 2017 World Games from July 26-30 in Wroclaw, Poland.
Midfielders Taylor Cummings ’16 and Katie Schwarzmann ’13 and defenders Megan Douty ’15 and Alice Mercer ’16 were named to the team. All four players, in addition to attackers Alex Aust ’13 and Brooke Griffin ’15, will also represent Team USA at this summer’s FIL Women’s World Cup.
The 2017 World Games, an IOC-regulated event that promotes non-Olympic sports, marks the first time lacrosse has participated.
Six women’s lacrosse teams, hailing from the United States, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Japan and Poland, will compete in a 10-on-10 format, including the goalie, with two players holding behind the restraining line. Team USA will play Poland and Great Britain in pool play at Olawka Stadium in Wroclaw.
