Caleb Williams Commitment Update

By Jack Rothenberg

The top quarterback in the class of 2021, Caleb Williams, has announced his commitment date. On July 4, he will decide between Oklahoma, LSU and Maryland. This is yet another test for head coach Mike Locksley and the Maryland staff, to see if they can keep local talent even after signing a high caliber quarterback last month.

Williams, who attends Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., believes that Locksley is building something big in College Park. “[Locksley] can be the Nick Saban of the DMV,” Williams said during an appearance on Glenn Clark Radio. Even though getting transfer quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa decreases the chances that the Terps land Williams, Maryland is close enough, proximity wise, to make the decision interesting.

As for the other two schools in Williams’ final three, it’s hard to say who might have the edge. While the Sooners do have their future quarterback in sophomore Spencer Rattler, they have no class of 2021 quarterback commitments to date. LSU on the other hand has five on their current roster and another coming in for the 2021 season, but none with a lot of hype.

With Locksley at the helm, you can’t help but feel that there is a real chance at landing WIlliams. Even if the Maryland staff can’t reel him in, Terp fans have to be ecstatic about the team that is being built. If the Gonzaga star does choose Maryland, it will only add to the excitement moving forward.
