Maryland did exactly what it was supposed to do against Hampton, and then some. DeJuan Williams broke the game open with a 94-yard touchdown run, the second-longest run in Maryland history. The Terps led 34-0 at halftime, emptied the bench and finished off a 62-0 shutout.
Maryland piled up 646 yards of offense, including 365 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Williams had 116 yards and two touchdowns on only three carries. Malik Washington completed 19 of 31 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown, surpassing 3,000 career passing yards.
The defense held Hampton to just 85 total yards and six first downs while recording five sacks and three interceptions. Messiah Delhomme had two interceptions, while DD Holmes recorded two sacks.
That is how you handle an overmatched opponent: take control, build depth and move on. Maryland is 1-0 with UConn up next. Nothing stays won.
