Accolades are coming in from all over the country as the Terrapins have made a tremendous hire that gets better the more you learn about the new coach. This is what I love about Turgeon: Watch the press conference on the post below and you will see he understands what Basketball means at the University of Maryland. Thousands of people are discussing this past weekend, terptalk.com has never been as populated. Terrapin basketball  rules the hoops talk in this state … Read More »

MARK TURGEON

“I accepted the Maryland job earlier tonight. It was just too good an offer for me to pass on. The thing that made it the most difficult was the players. Those guys have done everything I’ve asked for four years and we’ve had a great ride. (Director of Athletics) Bill Byrne has been really good to me too. Those are … Read More »

Random thoughts:

I trust our AD to make the right call.

That being said I believe Maryland is A BIG TIME PROGRAM AND DESERVES A BIG TIME COACH!!!! WE NEED SOMEONE WHO HAS BEATEN BIG TIME OPPONENTS ON A REGULAR BASIS.

This hire is SOOOOOOOOO important to Terrapin Nation. I originally liked the idea of Sean Miller because I thought he wanted the job so much. I want someone who is dieing for the role. Someone who loves and understands Maryland … Read More »

The hunt goes on. I guess when you try to hire someone who is already making 1-2 million a year, you better have 3 or 4 guys ready as backups. At this moment -that is 1AM Monday morning perhaps the field looks like the following:

John Lucas– a late entry who has coached on many levels and of course is the accomplished point guard for the Terps under Lefty—longshot

Mike Brey -Coach of the Regular season Big East champion Notre … Read More »

Mark Turgeon, Texas A&M: Turgeon played at Kansas. He fully understands what it’s like to be at a basketball-crazed school. He coached at one in Wichita State. He would enjoy being at a basketball-first school like Maryland. He has done a wonderful job keeping the Aggies relevant in the Big 12 and A&M will again be in the mix in the conference title race next season. But would Turgeon be the choice for Anderson? That’s still an unknown. As one … Read More »

Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams made it official during a news conference Friday afternoon at the Comcast Center.

After a legendary head coaching career spanning 33 years, including the last 22 at his alma mater, Williams announced his retirement. “I have great confidence in the future of the basketball program because of these gentlemen (Dr. Wallace Loh and Kevin Anderson) sitting here,” Williams said. “It’s not about supporting a player or a coach. … Read More »

The basketball staff is considering adding Spencer Barks to the program, a 6-8 1/2, 240 lb banger from St. Alban’s as a walk-on

Barks, a lefty, had some low D-1 offers, but wanted to give it a try at a higher level. He played for former Terp Duane Simpkins at St. Alban’s, a tremendous academic school, and obviously has solid grades.

We saw Barks in February and he did some nice things. He’s not a high flyer, but … Read More »
