It was happy, wild, loud and wonderful – here is a look inside the arena and the postgame celebration –

What a great day for DC and all Capital fans in the region!!!

Braden Holtby Back to Back shutouts in games 6 and 7

My key play tonight was the beatdown #43 Tom Wilson administered on his Tampa counterpart. You could see the blood on Wilson’s knuckles.

#8 scored the opening goal and the team never looked back. 2 more by Andre Burakovsky and an empty netter by Backstrom closed out the scoring.

My first look at Stub Hub revealed … Read More »

I don’t know why the term jinx still come to mind. A 2-0 lead over the Lightening in the conference finals should bring confidence.  After all, we did just dispense of the Penguins. When the series resumes tonight in DC, the Capitals have a chance to bury a few more ghosts.

Or… well see, it is the “or” that brings worry. No Caps team gets … Read More »

Rockville, MD 5/8/2018 – Wayne Viener

20 years later, the Capitals are back in the conference championship. It gives credence to the hashtag #beforeidie (before I die).

I have waited. I have hoped. I have bought jerseys, hats, tickets, popcorn, beer, nachos, etc., and have indoctrinated many fans over that 20 years. And the Capitals have lost.

Last night was a mountaintop, not just a milestone. A 2-1 overtime … Read More »

You can change the players, you can change the coaches, you can change the century – but you can’t change the outcome.

As usual, the Caps are in the process of rendering the regular season irrelevant. They lose as the higher seed, they lose as the lower seed, they just find a way to lose.

In my lifetime the Bullets have won, the Redskins have won, the Orioles have won, the Maryland Basketball … Read More »

The Verizon Center has officially been re-branded as the “Capital One Arena”. Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post broke the story first saying “Monumental will also announce a separate $40 investment in the privately owned arena, with the money going toward projects such as Monumental360 — a data-based effort to analyze fan preferences — and a new point-of sale system, meant to create more efficient lines. That system will likely offer discounts to Capital One cardholders.” I have to assume … Read More »

Thank heavens the Maryland Lacrosse teams didn’t play Wednesday night.

First, I really can’t say the Caps fell apart. They peppered Marc-Allen Fleury continuously but could not dent the nets. What will the future of this team be? Top line right wing T.J. Oshie — who tied Ovechkin for the team lead in goals this season — and another couple of forwards, Justin Williams and Daniel Winnik, along with defensemen Alzner and Kevin Shattenkirk are unrestricted free agents. Evgeny Kuznetsov, … Read More »

“It’s judgment day,” says my radio partner Bruce.  And for the Washington Capitals, Bruce is correct.  For all the years watching and waiting for the Caps to break through, today is the day.

The Capitals began life in 1974 and have yet to win the Stanley Cup.  The team has been to two Conference Finals and one Stanley Cup Final.  Whether tonight’s opponent is Pittsburgh or if Washington is just playing against history, they are equally tough … Read More »

WR Rayshad Lewis has announced he will transfer to Maryland from Utah State. Rayshad caught 40 passes as a Freshman. Note he is the son of Ray Lewis.

O’s take Gia Gonzalez deep 3 times and hold on to defeat the Nats 6-4.

The Caps outplayed the Penquins in every facet of the game winning a 5-2 decision in Game 6 and advancing to game 7. Look for the Caps to win.

I got to the O’s game in the 3rd inning and joyously watched the next 6 1/2 innings roll by quickly as the O’ won 4-0 and swept the White Sox.

Chris Tillman pitched 5 scoreless innings to get the win and Asher and Brach combined for 4 shutout innings.

Matchups for Nats O’s–A SPLIT WOULD BE INCREDIBLE

Monday—Gia Gonzalez (3-0 1.64 era) vs Gausman

Tuesday– Don’t laugh— Max Scherzer vs UBALDO

Weds– Strasburg vs Wade Miley

Thurs—Bundy vs Turner
