Seventh-seeded Josh Asper picked up three victories at 165 pounds to advance to Friday’s quarterfinals at the 2012 NCAA Championships at the Scottrade Center Thursday. It was just a rebounding mismatch that the Greyhounds could not overcome. However there was no quit in this Jimmy Patsos team. Erik Etherly lead Loyola with 16 points but stifling Buckeye defense held Robert Olsen in check. Loyola contained Jared Sullinger holding him to 4-14 shooting and 14 points, but there was no answer for Deshaun Thomas who finished with 31 points.

Alfredo Rodriguez broke a scoreless tie with a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that scored Ryan Holland and lifted Maryland to a 1-0 victory over St. Peter’s Wednesday evening.
The win lifted the Terps (13-4) to a sweep of its doubleheader with the Peacocks. Maryland, which beat St. Peter’s 9-0 in the first game, is now 6-0 in doubleheaders this season.
The Maryland wrestling team is set to travel to St. Louis, Mo., for the 2012 NCAA Championships which begin Thursday, March 15 and run through Saturday, March 17 at the Scottrade Center. The Terps will send seven wrestlers to St. Louis and have four seeded participants.
