Alex Krom won the individual championship at 141 pounds and the University of Maryland wrestling team finished sixth at the Midlands Championships, its best finish ever at the prestigious tournament.

The Terps had three wrestlers place, as Steven Bell finished runner-up at 133 pounds andHudson Taylor took fifth at 197 pounds. Maryland finished sixth despite wrestling with eight entrants rather than 10, as Mike Letts and Patrick Gilmore were unable to compete.

The 10th-ranked University of Maryland wrestling team opened the 2009-10 season in dominant fashion, winning a pair of duals against Drexel and York in a tri-meet Saturday at Comcast Pavilion. The Terrapins (2-0) opened the day with a 35-6 victory against Drexel (1-1) and returned shortly after with a 57-0 shutout of York (0-2) that lasted less than 45 minutes and featured eight pins. I guess being on Terp Talk last Thursday night produced some instant kharma for Kerry McCoy. What a fantastic job by Kerry leading the Terps to the ACC title and finishing in 10th place in the NCAA Championships. With the addition of Josh Asper and return of Mike Letts is it conceivable that the Terps could challenge for the Title next year. Another great hire by AD Debbie Yow.

 The University of Maryland wrestling team capped the 2008-09 season with a bang Saturday, finishing in 10th place at NCAA Championships at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Maryland finished with 47.5 points, finishing ahead of the likes of traditional powerhouses Michigan, Northwestern, Minnesota, Oklahoma State and Penn State, among others. Iowa won its second straight team championship with 96.5 points.

The #2 Terrapin lacrosse team journeyed to Scully Fahey Field at Dartmouth yesterday and barely defeated the #15 team.  Karri Ellen Johnson scored in the 2nd overtime to give Maryland the victory. the Terps are now 7-0 with BC coming to College Park Saturday at High Noon.
