Is there a home field edge in baseball–I doubt it. The Yankees went down to defeat with their big guns failing to produce when it counted. Let’s go to the bottom of the 7th. Tigers up 3-1 –bases are loaded with the heart of the lineup—Arod stikes out—–Tex draws a walk with 2 favorable calls—-Swisher strikes out.  Ouch!!!In the bottom of the 9th Valverde backed up his boasting getting the Yanks out 1-2-3- for his 50th save. Heads will start … Read More »

The Bronx Bombers win their first World Series since 2000, and it solid fashion, winning with enough starting pitching and key relief work.  Their offense, which is what they were known for coming into the series, was good, but the men on the mound were better.  Congratulations to the New York Yankees for the win.

Player of the Game- Hideki Matsui.  His performance in Game 6 may go down as one of the best in Yankee World Series history.  … Read More »

-Obviously the Phillies needed to win, and they did off a rested Cliff Lee.  This was the easy part of the uphill battle as they return to Yankee Stadium down three games to two to New York.

–Player of the Game: Chase Utley.  Utley’s bat has been big in the Phillies two wins, getting two home runs in each.  His two dingers with four RBIs got them the lead and provided the eventual game winner. Bruce—I could mke a strong … Read More »

Well now the Phillies know what the Orioles have to contend with 38 games a year—19 with Boston, 19 with the Yankees.

Shane Rollins might be right –the Series moght be over in 5 games.

I wonder if the Yankees fill their need for another Double AA infield prospect by trading Rivera.

Cliff Lee will extend the series to 6 games.

Tex will you please show up, Baltimore needs the pub.

Thoughts on Game 3- Fear the Yankee offense

If Game 3 proved anything, it is that you need to be on your game all nine innings to defeat the Yankees lineup.  The Phillies looked like they had control, a three-run lead including Andy Pettitte walking in a run and Cole Hamels going three-hitless innings, but the Yankee lineup blasted their way to eight runs in five innings to defeat the Phillies.  This is one of those games that the losing … Read More »

Pitching Comparisons

First things first.  I think it will be a big mistake if the Phillies don’t start Pedro Martinez in Game 2.  The reasons.  One Pedro is a big game pitcher who won’t be in awe pitching on the road at Yankee Stadium.  I don’t think it’s a good idea pitching lefties, Lee and Hamels back to back.  It gives the Yankees an advantage seeing pitchers throwing from basically the same angle back to back.  You want to change the eye level of the … Read More »

2009 World Series—–The 105th edition of Major League Baseball’s Fall/Winter Classic, The World Series, begins Wednesday at the new Yankee Stadium.  The defending champions, the Philadelphia Phillies, tangle with the American league champions, the New York Yankees.

The outfields.  Philly..Jason Werth, Raul Ibanez and Shane Victorino.  All 3 hit well with Werth and Ibanez having good power.  Ibanez is a … Read More »

Any  day of the week , I would take George Sherrill over Jonathan Broxton. Torre must be asleep. Yes Sherrill did give up a 3 run dinger to Ibanez in Game 1 but when the chips were on the line Monday night, the ex Oriole struck out Ryan Howard with a tremendous mixture of pitches. Everytime I see this guy in Dodger Blue I get sick. First the O’s give Sherrill away for a Double AA 3rd baseman and then … Read More »

The Yankees will not have an easy time with the Angels–why—Vlad Guerrero.  I still believe if the O’s could have closed the deal when Vladimir was a free agent, we would not be in the mess we find ourselves today. This guy is a pure winner. However, the Mercenaries are just too deep. There is not even close to a soft spot in the lineup. Over the course of a long series most pitching staffs succumb to the might of … Read More »

I have to tell the truth, the last 2 nights I wanted to puke. How could we have given up George Sherrill. Bill Ripken said he believed Sherrill is the strength of the Dodgers bullpen, as George got the victory  Thursday night.  Then last night I had to watch Tex go deep to win the game. Will the Orioles ever be back? That’s enough baseball for tonight.
