Maryland men’s lacrosse rising sophomore Charlie Raffa scored two goals in the U.S. under-19 men’s national team’s 24-6 win over Australia Friday in its opening game of the Federation of International Lacrosse U19 World Championship in Finland.
Matt Kavanagh led Team USA with three goals and three assists, tallying five points in the first half, as the U.S. (1-0) improved to 37-0 all-time in sanctioned U19 international competition.
It was a clear KO for Kevin Cooper over Greg McBride that actually led to a man advantage for Maryland, but Carolina won the war in the end. Down 11-9 with 40 seconds remaining in the game, Kevin Cooper hit Greg McBride late and received a flag. McBride retaliated by hitting Cooper low. A major mistake. Raffa is the premier face off specialist in the country . What an unbelievable backup to Curtis Holmes!!!!! Note the only 2013 player on the U19 squad is Stephen “Bones” Kelly from Calvert Hall. Bones is a Carolina lean but here’s hoping he sees the light and joins John Tillman’s Maryland team.
John Tillman is known as a master recruiter. Well he has landed 2 of the top players in Long Island with the the addition of Charlie Raffa (pictured in the middle above) and Joseph Locasio.
