When Darrius Heyward Bey was selected in the first round 3 years ago even local commentators were ridiculing Al Davis. Yesterday DHB had 7 catches for 99 yards and a 34 yd TD to honor the memory of Al Davis.
Maybe it was a slow process. But DHB is beginning to show the promise that led him to be the 8TH pick in the NFL Draft. yesterday against Seattle he had 5 receptions for 101 yards including a 69 yard TD pass. He also ran once for 30 yards. The Raiders crushed Seattle 33-3.
I NEVER joined the crowd ridiculing DHB. I will always remember some of the great plays he made for the Terps. ESPN.com reports the following:
Most improved player in Raiders camp: Darrius Heyward-Bey DHB — who had just nine catches as a rookie last season — has noticeably improved his pass-catching skills. Instead of letting the ball come to him, … Read More »
Hopefully this is the 1st of many for ex-Terrapin grad and 1st round pick of the Raiders.
It’s a great day to be a Terp especially if you are Darrius Heyward Bey. Thursday DHB signed a huge contract with the Oakland Raiders, to be JaMarcus Nelson’s primary target. WAY TO GO DHB!!!!!
There is a great article by ESPN’s Seth Wickersham about how Darrius Heyward Bey is adjusting to life in the NFL. As everyone already knows, Oakland’s drafting of DHB was the biggest surprise of this year’s draft. Most analysts projected him to go late in the first round, and now there are a lot of skeptics who are questioning his abilities to perform as a top 10 pick.
However, DHB has remained confident throughout his transition into the NFL and … Read More »
From the Sun, check out this video of DHB with his family at the time of the announcement. When I go back over DHB’s career at Maryland the only thoughts I have of him were scoring touchdowns. It seems like every time he touched the ball zooooom he was gone. The Oakland Raiders have selected a great athlete and a great kid. After 2 years in the NFL the second guessing of selecting him over Crabtree will cease. … Read More »
As of now Darrius has been projected as low as the 7th pick by the Oakland Raiders. Unless the Jets decide to try to move up and select QB1 from USC, Mark Sanchez–I believe the Jets will grab the 4.3 speedster with the 17th pick. Kevin Barnes and Jamie Thomas should be t least 2 more Terrapins drafted this weekend.
I guess his 40 time of 4.3 and his 38″ vertical leap has finally awoke some of the NFL teams besides the Ravens. It seems the Ravens won’t get lucky and have DHB slip down to 26th. The Oakland Raiders were impressed with his workout and now the New York Jets are entering the picture. The next few weeks should be exciting for the McDonogh lad.
Eric DeCosta wanted to have a look at DHB. Being less then an hour away, Eric brought his young gun, #5, down to College Park to really test the projected 1st Round receiver. Flacco was impressed with all aspects of Darrius’ game. Look for the Ravens to make Darrius its #1 pick should he last to #26. This is doubtful, however. When Darrius clocked a 4.3 in the 40 and then followed it up with a 38 inch vertical, his stock … Read More »
