It’s almost fitting that Baltimore Orioles third baseman Josh Bell made his major league debut just as Erik Bedard is set to rejoin the Seattle Mariners‘ rotation next week. Why? Let’s just say that the Orioles’ trade of Bedard to the Mariners is the gift that keeps on giving. Not only did the O’s get Adam Jones and Chris Tillman in that Bedard deal, but they also got a season and a half of Read More »
Strong starting pitching, no timely hitting, no bullpen spells defeat for the O’s
Weak starting pitching, strong timely hitting, strong bullpen spells victory. I guess you always need 2 out of 3 to win.
Since the day George was traded the bullpen has been in shambles. Jim Johnson possibly overthrew himself into major elbow problems. Gonzo ruined the early part of the season and set the tone for this team the rest of the year. Simon is not the answer. Uehara is not the answer. At this point I am not sure Sherrill … Read More »
If the guy can still hit and we can get him at a reasonable price, welcome home Miquel. Which begs the question –Why did we ever trade George Sherrill for a AA third baseman. Also, who did we get for Aubrey Huff. I wonder how many fans can answer that one.
The Yankees will not have an easy time with the Angels–why—Vlad Guerrero. I still believe if the O’s could have closed the deal when Vladimir was a free agent, we would not be in the mess we find ourselves today. This guy is a pure winner. However, the Mercenaries are just too deep. There is not even close to a soft spot in the lineup. Over the course of a long series most pitching staffs succumb to the might of … Read More »
I have to tell the truth, the last 2 nights I wanted to puke. How could we have given up George Sherrill. Bill Ripken said he believed Sherrill is the strength of the Dodgers bullpen, as George got the victory Thursday night. Then last night I had to watch Tex go deep to win the game. Will the Orioles ever be back? That’s enough baseball for tonight.
The O’s took a step closer to 100 defeats as the bullpen ailed to hold a 3 run lead —-again, losing to Tampa Bay 7-6. With 6 games remaining the Orioles are 60-96 in the midst of a 11 game losing streak, as the forfeiture of 2009 continues.
60-93 or 20-45 post All Star Game—I neber thought these would be the numbers this year. Perhaps replacing George Sherrill waon’t be as east as many have mentioned.
Losing Sherrill would not have changed anything significantly for the Orioles. Last place with him or without him. However MacPhail is doing a great job despite the w-l record. The foundation is being set for a much better season next year and a contending team in probably 2 to 2 1/2 years from now. Outstanding young outfield, good double play combo, terrific young catcher, several quality young arms in the rotation. promising prospect at 3rd base, Josh Bell, picked up … Read More »
I am to assume that a Single A closer is worth forfeiting the remainder of the season because by jettisoning Aubrey Huff the chances of the O’s winning 22 of their remaing games and winding up with 70 wins is very remote. Why does this matter you might ask? Season ticket holders pay the same price for games in August and September that they pay in May and June. The only difference the message the Oriole brass is sending out … Read More »
