Casey Townsend became the eighth Terrapin to be drafted with a top five pick in the MLS SuperDraft Thursday. The senior forward was selected fifth overall by Chivas USA.

Townsend was named an NSCAA Second Team All-American and a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist this season while garnering first team All-ACC honors for the second straight year. The Traverse City, Mich., product racked up 17 goals as a captain for the Terps.

Maryland defender Ethan White has signed to play professionally with Major League Soccer’s D.C. United, becoming the squad’s fourth Homegrown player, the club announced Tuesday morning. White, a sophomore, progressed from United’s Academy to Maryland, where he led the Terps to back-to-back NCAA Quarterfinal appearances and a 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference title. A Matt Kassel penalty kick goal followed by a tremendous defensive effort provided Maryland with its fourth league tournament title Sunday, as the Terps dropped North Carolina, 1-0, in the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Championship. Maryland (17-2-1) goalkeeper Zac MacMath was named the ACC Championship Most Valuable Player after tallying six saves to preserve the Terps’ 13th shutout this season. Kassel, Casey Townsend and Jason Herrick were also tabbed to the all-tournament team.

Field Hockey–The #2 Lady Terps won twicw this weekend 7-5 at Old Dominion on Friday and 7-2 at home against Delaware on Sunday. Katie O’Donnell’s 2 goals on Sunday allowed her to pass Nicole Muracco as Maryland’s leading goal scorer in history.

The Maryland men’s soccer team notched their first ACC win of the season Saturday at home against NC State.  Jason Herrick scored the first and third goals, while Casey Townsend added the second goal.  Maryland and Zac MacMath would have had a shut-out were it not for a slip-up between Paul Torress and MacMath which led to an empty net shot on goal for the Pack’s Chris Zuerner.
