Recap of Terps 72-56 Victory over Oakland from Taters John

In a game that they led from start to finish the Terps jumped out to a quick 4 to 0 lead at the opening tip off, upped that to 37 to 19 at the half, started the second half like the first and led by 42 to 19 one minute in, saw Oakland cut it to seven 63 to 56 with 4 minutes left and then went on a 9 to 0 run to win by 72 to 56.The Terps are now at 12 and 1 heading into the Big Ten schedule and should possibly move up another notch or so in the rankings.

Dez Wells back after missing seven games due to a wrist injury showed just how important he will be down the stretch as when the game got close he scored on a variety of shots to help the Terps pull away at the end. Dez, scoreless in the first half,  played 22 minutes, scored 10 points on 5 for 9 shooting and had 4 assists. Coach Turgeon played ten guys with all of them getting into the scoring column. As in just about all the games Trimble and Layman had the commentators searching for words to describe their play. Trimble was an amazing 5 for 6 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points, high for the game. Would you believe that he did not go to the free throw line one time the entire game? Layman again had a double, double with 15 points and a team leading 12 rebounds. Both Layman and Trimble had 11 points at the half. Pack had another strong effort with 8 points and 4 for 4 from the stripe. Wiley had 5, Graham, Smotryz and Checko all had 4 each, Nickens 3, and Dodd 2. Talk about balanced scoring !!! The Terps made 14 straight free throws before missing their last two and finishing 14 for 16, 87%. We finished 8 for 20 from beyond the arc, 40%.
Our next game, December 30th at Michigan State begins the Big Ten schedule and three of our next four will be played away so things are definitely going to get tougher for the Terps but they appear ready for what lies ahead. No more cupcakes and being new to the Big Ten will mean that we have a target on our backs so we have to prove we are up to the task. GO TERPS !!!
