Vasquez, Neal Get Terps Step Closer to the Big Dance

The Wolfpack hung around tonight but Greivis Vasquez refused to let his team falter, scoring 33 points and running a near flawless court game while leading the Terps to a 71-60 road victory over NC State. Dave Neal reminded his team at halftime the urgent need for a road win in the ACC and finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds. The Terps are now 7-7 in conference play and the general consensus is that 8-8 will get the Terrapins back into the dance. Next up: Wake Forest on Tuesday night  at Comcast. Some observations on the game tonight:

I blogged at halftime that Cliff Tucker was going to have to step up and score and he came through in the 2nd half.

Mosley needs rest on that ankle. My guess is Cliff starts Tuesday night.

It’s amazing how Dave Neal has elevated his game this season. His points, rebounds and defense on Tracy Smith were crucial tonight.

Was it me or did the Wolfpack look lethargic the entire game.

Gary’s variations of pressure defense crippled State’s attack tonight and thus the Wolfpack could only muster 60 points.
