Ian Evans, New Jersey Defensive End Verbally Commits to Maryland

As reported in Matt Bracken’s blog. defensive end Ian Evans becomes the 4th Terrapin football committment. The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder chose UM over offers from Syracuse and Temple. Rutgers, Penn State, Vanderbilt and many others were expressing interest, according to Hammonton head coach Pete Lancetta.

“I sent film out to a lot of places and [Maryland] was one of the first to respond very, very positively,” Lancetta said. “We’ve been getting obviously a lot of traffic coming through [the school]. He went [to College Park] twice on visits and really liked it. He went to the spring game with his mother. … I think [his commitment] had a lot to do with the fact that it’s a really beautiful place. He felt that it was right for him. … I support him 100 percent. I’m real proud of him and really happy about his decision.” Check out Matt’s blog for more info on Evans.
