Some Thoughts on Bball as the Terps Anxiously Await Return of Gregory on Saturday

I can’t wait to see the energy bump in the entire team with the return of Dino Gregory. The Terps could actually have 2 bigs in the game at the same time with Dino  and Jordan.

Greivis is not the first Senior to start a season slow.  But believe me Ryan, Senor Vasquez will show up eventually. think back over the great games he has had at Maryland. With the new talent spread on this team , he must stop pressing , just relax and play ball.

How Good is  Sean Mosley—Folks he is the real deal yet he barely gets a mention from anyone except basketball purists. Why is he never mentioned as a potential for ALL ACC or the ALL ACC Defensive team. His coaches really taught him an unselfish angle to the game, which is why he is a perfect fir on a Gary Williams’ coached team.  09-10 will be a breakout year for the Baltimore lad.

The zone might become a major part of the 09-10 season. When I asked Gary about the resurgence of the Zone for Maryland he said it was just something to mix up the other team.

I always thought James Padgett would have an easier time adapting to the speed of college basketball but so far Jordan is improving with every game, playing stellar minutes against one of the 2 or 3 best teams in the country.

As quick as Scottie Reynolds is, it’s strange that he has not been listed in the latest NBA mock draft on NBAdraft.net.

VASQUEZ SHOOTING 32% WITH NUMEROUS TURNOVERS, FORCED SHOTS AND OVERALL SLOPPY PLAY. YES SENIORS HAVE STARTED SLOWLY IN THE PAST BUT WHEN IT’S YOUR POINT GUARD PLAYING BADLY THE NEGATIVE EFFECT IS MAGNIFIED.

Amen Freddy. GV has never been a good shooter. He was infinitely more consistent last year. I think that might have been a fluke.

He makes terrible decisions. Why is Mosley so much better? Because he has COURT SMARTS!!

Both of you will eat your criticisms within a month. Greivis is still profjected in the NBA draft even after a slow start.

NBA players are spot on shooters, if you play SF, PG, or the 2. They just don’t miss open looks very often.
GV has NEVER had good mechanics when it comes to shooting.
He is projected to get drafted, because, I have been saying all along that he is the most over-hyped player in NCAA basketball.

The funny thing is, is he would be SO MUCH BETTER FOR THE TEAM, if he was a pass first PG. With Mosley, Hayes, and Milbourne, and Gregory coming back, with Williams and Padget getting better, GV could EASILY average 8+ assists a game.
THAT is his best chance for the NBA. But his makes way to many dumb decisions, and just plain out can’t shoot.

Ross will change all of MD’s shooting problems next year, and I truly feel that Stoglin might actually go on to have the best MD career. He is like John Gilchrest incarnate, but maybe even better.
The BEST PG in college are either very smart or very athletic. GV is neither of those. Look at the charges, and all of the missed layups.

my criticism is based on his production so far this year. period. so there is nothing to eat next month or whenever. if you can say he’s played well so far this year than please make that statement and support it. the fact is he’s had a bad start and i don’t think anyone could argue that. i’d love to write in a month that vasquez has turned his game around. i think he’s very talented but the bottom line is production and consistency.

It almost seems like vasquez doesn’t fit in with this team. He thrived on being THE man on teams with less talent and now that he’s got people around him, he is having a hard time adjusting. This team is fun to watch and it’s because they play with the Gary Williams trademark intensity plus now they have multiple offensive threats. That being said, I still think he’ll come around.
Hayes has been lights out. Landon is finally playing his correct position and excelling because of it. Mosely is the most complete player on the court whenever he’s in the game. Jordan is a flat out stud. I haven’t been this optimistic about a Terps squad in awhile.
