Terrapins, Dominate and Defeat FSU 77-68 Behind Senior Leadership

Greivis, Eric and Landon combined for 52 points including 9-13 from the 3 point line, guiding the Terps to victory in their first ACC game of the season. Some key points on the game.

The whole team seemed more at ease on the offense.

This team came ready to play and its suffocating defense brought #18 FSU to its knees.

Solomon Alabi was superb in the 2nd half. the 7’1″ center finished the game with 17 points and 9 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Jordan and James Padgett wound up with 7 points and 11 rebounds combined. Gary commented on their efforts “”Both James Padgett and Jordan Williams did a terrific job for us defensively. You won’t see a bigger front line than [Florida State’s] in college, and we were able to actually outrebound them for the game.”

Juan Dixon, Scot Van Pelt, Lefty Driesell. Stu Vetter,Johnny Rhodes, and Walt Williams were all in the house tonight.

FSU coach Leonard Hamilton commented after the game, “”I thought that Maryland played a lot more mature than we did tonight. I thought that they had a game plan that they stuck with. They moved the ball and made the extra pass. That accounted for many of the offensive rebounds, because they moved and reversed the ball. Before they took the shot they broke up our defensive pressure and sometimes when they would miss the shot, the ball would bounce long and it was always bouncing in their direction. We did block a shot back to them and they got an extra bucket. That’s what a mature team would do and you have to give them credit because I thought that made a big difference in the game.”

The Terps are back in action Tuesday night at Wake Forest. The closeness of the 2 games makes no sense. How can the Terrapins prepare properly for this game?

Very very good win. Unselfish play. Md got a lot of good looks from the 3 pt line and knocked ’em down. Good hustle on the boards and defense. I can do without Vasquez “shimmies”. It’s classless. And please don’t say..well that’s just him. That’s his personality. If it is, it’s time for him to change and act like a senior. Poor free throw shooting by Md. I’d like to see Tucker and Padgett get more time.
