Terps Drop 1st of Season to NC 9-7—Virginia’s Matt Ward–“Maryland is a bit of a pretender, certainly not a contender”

Matt Ward really said that–I bet Dom Starsia has a little talk with his ex attackman.

Why is it as soon as I heard Billy Bitter was out for the day, I knew the Terps were in trouble. Let’s look back at the last 3 times a star was out against the Terps:

1) Last year Syracuse’s goalie was a last second scratch in the quarterfinals. The 2nd string goalie who had never started comes in and plays stupendous.

2) Ckemson without Stitt at Littlejohn defeated the Terps.

3) Today without Billy Bitter —Carolina won in a game not as close down the wire as the score indicated.

It was a strange game in that Maryland’s attack never got started. Grant Catalino barely touched the ball. Fetzer Field must be coated with ice because the Terps were slipping everywhere, or else they were wearing the wrong cleats. The season is not coming to an end however, The Terps have a shot at #1 UVA next Saturday night at Byrd. I hope the cavs count the Terps out because they will beat the Hoos like they did last year (minus the bad Timeout call). Ryan Young, Adam Sear, Brynn Holmes, and Brett Schmidt played well for the Terps today.
