West Virginia Blocking The Transfer of Deon Long To Maryland

This one is complicated but insidemdsports.com is reporting tonight that coveted WR Deon Long has received his release from WVU but the Mountaineers have will not allow the transfer of Long to Maryland. “Weeks ago, InsideMDSports.com first broke news that highly regarded former Dunbar (D.C.)wide receiver Deon Long was seeking a transfer from West Virginia, with hopes of transferring to Maryland. Today WVU released Long from his scholarship. And despite some red tape, he’s still hopeful that he’ll be able to become a Terp.  Long, regarded as one of the best post-graduate prospects in the nation last year at Hargrave Military Academy (Va.), was released by WVU with the stipulation that he not transfer to Maryland or Texas Tech – the former because WVU and Maryland are scheduled to play each other during his years of eligibility, and the latter because his former coach at Hargrave, Robert Prunty, was hired as Texas Tech’s defensive line coach in February.”
