Greivis Named Team MVP at Post Season Banquet

Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year Greivis Vasquez was among three seniors who shared the spotlight Thursday night as the University of Maryland men’s basketball team held its annual awards banquet before more than 500 fans on the Comcast Center floor.  The three seniors earned commemorative basketballs honoring their respective scoring milestones this season in a presentation hosted by Maryland alumnus Scott Van Pelt, an anchor at ESPN. Van Pelt also honored Gary Williams for his 2010 ACC Coach of the Year Award.  Vasquez earned the Ameritel Most Valuable Player honor for the season, as well as an award for posting the most assists. Vasquez finished his stellar four-year career in second on career lists in scoring (2,171 points) and assists (772).

Milbourne won the award for Most Improved Player for 2010. The senior was a team captain for his last two seasons and started all 68 games for the Terps in that stretch. He was one of only four players in ACC history to reach the 1,000-point milestone after scoring fewer than 25 points as a freshman. Sean Mosley was the Fastbreakers Mr. Hustle Award winner after a sophomore season that had him finish as one of the four Terps who averaged in double figures in scoring, as well as finish second on the team in rebounding and steals. Freshman Jordan Williams earned the Charles “Buck” Williams / Len Elmore Rebounding Award. Williams finished second in the ACC in rebounding with an 8.6 boards-per-game average and was the top freshman on that list. He was voted to the ACC All-Freshman Team this season.  Junior David Pearman earned the Academic Award, given to the player with the top grade-point average on the team.  (from umterps.com)
