Analysis on Greivis from nyknicks.com

by Ricky Henne, nyknicks.com

One of the grittiest and most determined players in college basketball, Grevis Vasquez is looking to convince scouts that his game translates to the NBA.  So called experts who rely strictly on measurables and have never seen him play can’t understand the buzz that surrounds the Venezuelan sensation. But those who watched him in action while at Maryland understand the true impact he had on his team’s success. Simply put, he was invaluable.  The crafty guard averaged 19.6 points, 6.3 assists and 4.6 boards as a senior on his way to winning the Bob Cousy Award as the top point guard in the nation. He was also named the ACC Player of the Year and an AP Second Team All-American. Vasquez also finished his career as Maryland’s second highest scorer in school history.

A fiery competitor, Vasquez demands the ball in pressure situations and more often than not delivers. At 6-foot-6, 211-pounds, he possesses outstanding size for a guard, and he uses it to his advantage. With the ball in his hands, Vasquez is an excellent passer with great vision who knows how to make his teammates better.

The biggest knock on Vasquez is that despite his all out hustle, he lacks athleticism, which in turn leads him to struggle on the defensive end. While naysayers may point out his shortcomings and question how productive he can be at the pro’s, all you have to do is look at what Vasquez accomplished in college and ask how he is not worth giving a legit shot.

I’m a Terps/Knicks fan and would love to see the knicks trade for a pick and take GV… Ill be at the draft and will be wearing a GV jersey! GV would certainly excel in a Mike D’antoni run offense!
