At the press conference after Syracuse was defeated by the Lady Terps, Terrapin times reporter Mike Fecula asked Gary Gait if he had any interest in the position vacated by Dave Cottle. The “LIving Legend” commented on what a fine job Cottle had done at Maryland and then became awkwardly silent. For whatever reason, he looked over my way and smiled. I honestly believed there was no way he would come to Maryland. Supposedly he makes more money then he would be offered at Maryland. Obviously there still has to be some sting after what happened 9 years ago. But when you start to think about, what better way would there be to cement his name deeper into lacrosse history then to take Maryland to the promised land. Money isnt everything but then again rumors exist that perhaps Under Armour’s Kevin Plank might step into the picture and up Maryland’s ante for Gait. Gary and his wife were always very happy living in Baltimore. The Terps are a solid preseason top 3. Catalino, Young, and Travis under Gait’s tutelage would be intriguing. But remember this is only speculation!!!!

here’s my take. gait coaches at syracuse where he played. he plays for rochester when he’s not coaching. making more money than md would offer. probably really likes where he lives. absolutely no reason for him to come to md. why would someone want to make less money, live somewhere else than where he wants to live, and give up his playing time when he’s not coaching.
