Cliff Lee A Yankee? Bet On It–The Insanity of the AL East
Last night in the Big Apple Seattle Mariner Ace Cliff Lee was on display for Brian Cashman and the Yankees. The Mariners are out of the race and Cliff will be dealt. As usual the Yankees will beef up for the title run. Someone explain how can the Orioles ever compete in this division.
Draft better, and sign the solid international free agents. Over pay for them if you have too. Double if needs be.
Once you start winning a little more, and are in position to be buyers, if the O’s made a better offer, then Lee would be coming to BALTIMORE instead of NY.
Name 1, ONE, 1, international free agent the O’s have signed.
They have 32 scouts. Yankees have 56, Sox have 54, Rays have 59, and the Jays have 72!!!.
We have 1/2 the other 4 teams.
You would assume that if they don’t spend on the INT Free Agents, then they would have the highest Amatuer Draft Budget, right?
Wrong.
Last year was the first year in 10, that they were in the top 8 in draft spending.
The current problems the O’s face, has nothing to do with the Yankees.
We play the Yankees 18 times. True. But we lose to EVERYONE.
Our scouting is the worst.
They make the correct moves by trading veterans, as you should if they aren’t going to put you over the top. But, if what they get in return busts out, then, it was pointless.
Trust me when I tell you, the O’s have plenty of money to stay at the top if they ever got there.
You can’t buy the top though, you have to work your way there, and that is only going to happen within the farm system.
THEN, you have to plain out overpay someone to come here to put you over the top.
Then, draft well, so that OUR package for Lee would be better than the Yank-theeeeez package for Lee.
you hire good scouts who can identify talent. and you hire at least as many scouts as other teams have. check outm how many scouts the orioles have compared to other teams. you’d be amazed how few scouts the o’s have. you hire good coaches for your minor league teams to develop that talent. check out the marlins, tampa bay. no one draws less fans than those 2 teams except maybe pitts. yet the marlins have won 2 world series and tampa has gone to a ws in the last 10-12 yrs. the orioles have plenty of money to spend and angelos has shown in the past he’ll spend the money on players. . if you want to compete you have to do things the right way. so it’s when the orioles want to run their franchise the right way from top to bottom and stick with it they will contend. and lee isn’t going to the yankees
