This is what I vividly remember about the great George Blanda. There was a stretch one season where it seemed like Blanda either came off the bench as QB to relieve Darryl LaMonica and take the Raiders to victory or he would kick a winning 40 yard plus field goal. The Raiders would always be the 2nd game of a doubleheader and Sunday evening would always begin with heads shaking. Blanda’s success reminded me of how everyone rooted for Tom Watson at the Open Championship last year. There will never be another George Blanda. Rest in peace, George.
