Kyle Singler was too much for the Terps tonight. It’s funny but until Duke made its title run Singler was virtually not anywhere to be seen in the mock drafts. But now, with another year under his belt Kyle’s stock is through the roof. Again the bench for Duke did us in. Dawkins and Curry were a combined6-12 with 5-9 from the 3 point line. Overall Duke was 10-23 from the three line.
Maryland again seemed to only score from the inside and missed long shots–one after the other. Jordan ironically was 12-16 from the foul line Hopefully his strong foul shooting will continue. The 3 Seniors really took the loss hard as expected.
So the Terps fall to 4-4 and 14-8 overall. Their goal must be 10 conference wins –which means they need to win 6 of their final task.First up Wake Forest.

I hate to tell ya, cuz I don’t like it any more than any other fan, but…the Terps just ain’t that good.
Their upper classmen, where the 2 most disappopinting recruiting classes in Terps history, aside from the #1 that never panned out. Well, it did win 1 ACC tourney.
Anyway, the best quote of the day goes to Edsall, and Gary can learn from it. Sure, it is a bit of a cop out, but when Randy said “Don’t put to much stock into the rankings, we get players who we evaluate”.
That’s probably half true. If they could land 5stars, they would try. The point is, Gary misses on way too many.
Mosely, for all intensive purposes is a HUGE bust. He can’t shoot, and he doesn’t score by slashing or using his strength.
Tucker was a 4 Star, Gregory and Bowie were both 3’s. I could find 3 players, from the other smaller state schools like Loyola, or Morgan,etc. that I would rather have and are better.
Gary and whoever his recruiting team is, blew it. Mosely, was a 4 star, and ranked as high as 45 in some rankings. NO WAY is he among the top 50 Juniors in the country.
Now, Williams, in my eyes, is one of the top 10 players in the country, so they did good there.
My point is, Bino was brought in to change these mistakes. I hope they take a long look at Hubert, because I really think Whittington might be the better player in this system. He is more physical. Hubert is a tooth pick.
The issue is, this team is a horrible shooting team. It has nothing to do with the 2 freshman gaurds, because the reason they were ranked as low as they were, was the knock on them about not being shooters.
Shooting isn’t going to improve dramatically. You either have it, or no.
The ONE thing that I will never figure out with Gary is this.
Mychal Parker, in High School, was a scoring machine. He created match up problems like crazy. He could drive, he could shoot. He is super athletic. He has handles.
Now, on a team where aside from Williams, NO ONE scores consistently, WHY does Gary not play Parker? What could possibly be going on there?
The rap on Gary was always that he can’t figure out how to get the most out of the best players, but gets more out of less talented players. That is a total enigma.
I say again, Fredette would average 12 points playing here. Mike Jones, the #2 SG in the Nation behing Lebron James, did NOTHING aside from 1 3 pointer, until his Senior year.
Carolina went through the defensive ups and downs of playing a freshman in Harrison Barnes early in the season. NOW look at what that experience has done. UNC is now unstopable. I would LOVE from someone to get a detailed explanation of why Gary doesn’t just put Parker in and go with it. Design some offensive plays that get him the ball. LET him create match up problems.
I just don’t understand.
Can anyone explain it to me? They had it perfect went the whole Evans, Gilchrest fiasco broke. That other teams swoop in on the top players that are considering MD, and tell them if they have any hopes of playing in the NBA, that MD is the WORST place for them. Once you have that reputation, well, good luck.

ryan..i don’t think bowie and gregory were 3 star players. nobody really recruited them. tucker was not a 4 star. and parker is lost on offense and defense. he has not adapted to the college game. ya think with the lack of scoring from this team gary wouldn’t play parker if he could help the team. sadly this team is not very skilled, not very big and just can’t shoot. hard to win when you only get production from one guy.

to bruce. singler had a good team to come back to. one that could possibly win it all like last yr. if williams comes back he’s not going to have any help upfront and the team loses its best skilled player in tucker and the only “big” who has given any help to this yr’s team..gregory. plus williams leads the ncaa’s in double double’s and his stock continues to rise in the nba draft. hard to think williams will be back next yr. and if md doesn’t make teh ncaa dance this yur adn if williams leaves the terps chances of making the ncaa’s next yr would be seriously hindered. if that happens look for a large ground swell to change coached. after all gary is about 64-65 now and if he has back to back nit yrs the a.d.has a big decision. do you want a coach closing in on 70 for the long term or will it be time to bring in a younger coach.

1. He can’t jump.
2. He can’t shoot.
3. He can’t beat or pass out of a a double team.
4. Plumlee blew by him like he had cement shoes.
