This Can’t Be True—Terrapins Snubbed by the NIT—WHAT!!!!

I absolutely am in shock. The NCAA and NIT have spoken –the Terrapins are not one of the top 100 schools in the nation in Men’s basketball in 2011? Here is a message from Gary:

The University of Maryland men’s basketball team will not play in the 2011 postseason after not receiving invitations to the NCAA Tournament or the National Invitation Tournament.

“After 19 wins and beating Penn State, Florida State and Clemson, it’s disappointing that we’re not at least in the NIT,” said head coach Gary Williams. “We played right with Duke for 35 minutes and got a win in the ACC Tournament. It’s kind of surprising we weren’t selected.

“We worked very hard to get to where we were with 19 wins this year. We’re looking forward to the start of next season.”

A humiliating end to a crappy season. Wow. Speechless… seriously.

Something must be up. Maryland is too talented and is in a solid market for the NIT; probably shouldn’t be hosting a game but at the very least should be there. If Miami at 19-14, with wins over West Virginia and Akron their only victories over NCAA Tournament teams, is a 2-seed, Maryland with a similar resume isn’t even there? Miami did defeat Maryland granted, but the difference between the two resumes is not that large.

note to gary williams. college basketball games are 40 min. not 35 min. signature wins vs. longwood and new jersey transit authority are not going to get you any support for the post season. md did not have one quality win this yr. they beat nc st in the acc tourney…wow!

note to dave vatz..if md hosted an nit game maybe 4,000 would show up. that’s a big maybe and 1/2 the tickets would have to be freebees.

one more thing. why are md fans upset about not being invited to the nit when nobody wants to go to the nit?

Totally Earned NON invite!!! Maybe Gary will get the message although he is so set in his misguided ways, I doubt it. Start WORKING HARDER!!! recruiting!!! Other teams seem to find a way to do it without anything illegal. The world is not bklack and white. Back fill with enough talent and you wont miss the one and dones . This team this year stunk and did not deserve any invites!!!

Bruce, THEY ARE NOT DESERVING. They didn’t beat anyone.

Gary can’t recruit. NEVER has been able to. 1 player does not a class make. Look at this years seniors. 1 role player, and 2 total losers.
Mosely was the only member of that class, and he is a bust too.
Williams class. 1 player. The rest bench meat at MOST.
The freshman. Can’t handle the ball, and play totally out of control. Stoglin can score in spurts. Parker hasn’t played 10 minutes, and Howard is another out of control PG. Paulsen is solid. So, 1 1/2 players in 6.
It’s a total joke. THESE ARE NOT ACC PLAYERS.

Who supports Gary at this point? They tied for a REGULAR season title, in a down ACC, because of 1 shot that TUcker hit. 1 shot in 4 years. They got bounced in the 1st round of the ACC, then bounced by MSU without their best player.

NOW, they don’t even carry enough clout to get to the NIT? They don’t deserve to go, because they didn’t beat anyone.

3 NIT, and 1 nothing, in 7 years.
    What a total joke.

Matt, can you post the comments about Gary NOT EVEN GETTING INVOLVED until way late on Whittington?

When Justin Anderson in 2012 goes elsewhere, and when Hubert goes elsewhere, what will the apologists say then?

Is what Gary did 10 years ago gonna carry him for the next 10?

Billy Packer said it best the other night.
