Sean we hardly knew ya. As to what happened only Kevin Anderson knows but it seems like Miller leveraged a few bucks out of the Terps interest.
Who does that leave—again speculation–Mike Brey. Jay Wright and maybe Tubby Smith. Here is a list of potentials I compiled 2 days ago:
There are many more. Do not fret about Sean Miller–if he doesn’t want to come then move on!!!!!! The program moves on. Mike Brey knows the ACC after 8 years with Duke, certainly knows the area after being Morgan’s assistant at Dematha, and I believe has a great relationship with the AAU guys. At this point he seems to be the next guy up. Late last night Steve Yanda reported in the Washington Post:
“Two days after Maryland celebrated the career of retiring coach Gary Williams, the school’s search for Williams’s replacement could be turning to Notre Dame Coach Mike Brey. Brey will meet with Maryland officials on Sunday to discuss the vacant men’s basketball head coaching position, according to a source close to Brey and to the Maryland athletic department who was not authorized to speak on the record.”
Brey is currently negotiating an extension at Notre Dame but the fact that he is coming to College Park shows there is a deep rooted interest. But who knows what the Irish might counter with and who knows the interest level of Brey. Both are huge factors. Randy Edsall proved the desire to come to College Park weighs heavily with Kevin Anderson.
Jay Wright of course has a strong relationship with Stu Vetter from Montrose and certainly a great relationship with Gary, as he spoke as the Legends event. But many say he would never leave Villanova. Would Tubby come to Maryland? At 60 he would be a 5 year transition guy and they are already speculating in Minnesota that Tubby wants to come. Brad Stevens is probably entrenched in the Iandiana area.
Mothers Day at College Park should be an intriquing day!!! Stay tuned.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Anderson is next likely target will be Butler’s Brad Stevens, who is fresh off consecutive national championship game appearances. Stevens was wooed a year ago, notably by Oregon, and decided to stay put in his native Indiana. If Stevens can’t be dislodged then Maryland native Mike Brey of Notre Dame and then Texas A&M’s Mark Turgeon are expected to be next on the list.
And from Goodman:
Sources told FOXSports.com that Maryland AD Kevin Anderson may target Butler’s Brad Stevens next.
