Ok it’s sour grapes. At least I admit it is—unlike NW coach Amonte Hiller who wined about the refs last year. The Wildcats somehow devised a great defensive strategy to stop the Terrapin dynamic trio of Millison, Scharzmann, and Merrifeld. NW controlled the draws, and got clutch goalie play. Shannon Smith dented the nets 4 times for the Wildcats.
Some points:
Here is Amonte Hiller’s Post Game Opning Statement ““Obviously I’m just so happy right now, so proud of my team. I think this was a culmination of a lot of hard work, a lot of evaluating of ourselves, from our lowest moment, to our loss to Johns Hopkins and at Florida midseason to just gutting it out and winning games from small amounts all season. It prepared us for this moment and our girls could not have played more focused or more poised. I’m really proud of them and excited to bring the national championship back to Northwestern.” Not one word Congratulating Maryland—Think this feud is over? I doubt it”
Karrie Ellen Was missed—-No excuses–just a fact
Seemed like the Lady Terps kept shooting high
Perhaps the lack of a tough tournment game hurt the Terps, took a little edge off the team
There is heartbreak tonight but let’s not forget the season long #1 ranking, the ACC Title, another Final Four, 21-2 record, and a National Finalist berth. well done Cathy Reese–well done Seniors. I am sure we will be in the hunt for the title next year!!!!!

Freshman Beth Glaros scored a career-high four goals but the top-seeded Terps fell just short of its second straight national title Sunday, falling to Northwestern, 8-7, in the finals of the 2011 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
A strong defensive effort by Northwestern slowed top scoring threats Sarah Mollison and Katie Schwarzmann, leaving the duo with only one goal on the day and hampering Maryland’s top-scoring attack. Glaros netted four goals and junior Kristy Black and sophomores Alex Aust and Schwarzmann accounted for the Terps’ other three scores.
The teams went into halftime tied at 5-5, with Maryland owning a 5-2 lead midway through the first stanza. Glaros scored all four of her goals in the first half.
Maryland gave it a valiant effort in the game’s final minutes, with Schwarzmann shrinking the Wildcat lead to one with a goal with 1:15 left but it would be as close as the Terps would get.
