One could not help but be emotionally involved in this Terrapin lacrosse family. It was so evident when you watched the jubilation of the bench every time something happened positive happened for Maryland on the field. What made Coach Tillman so upset today was the valiant effort on and off the field all year for Maryland. After the game ended I had a chance to commiserate with the Coach and he felt so bad for the Seniors, the team, the Alumni and Terrapin nation as a whole. My response was the and is now: the Terps won the ACC title, defeated the number 1 Seed in the nation, got to the Final Four, and earned a spot in the National Title game. That is, was and always will be the mark of a truly successful season!!!!
A final salute to the Seniors leaving the program:
Grant Catalino–a flat out shooting stud, whose right handed riser defeated Hopkins in OT last year and Syracuse in OT this year.
Travis Reed—Injuries kept his productivity down his last 2 years–but a great free spirit with a wicked left handed shot
Dan Burns–the short stick defensive middie that everyone tried to take advantage of but never could. His riseĀ in participation coincided with our run at the end of the season. Best student interview ever!!
Max Schmidt, Brett Schmidt, Ryder Bolander–tremendous 3 unified defense team—Brett shut down Steele
Ryan Young–quiet leader, responsible for so much of the offense–heart of the team–how could he not be a Tewaaraton finalistCourageously played on and lead team during tragic illness of his mom–a real special kid
Scott LaRue–always ready, keyed the offensive part of the Syracuse victory
Brian Farrell–reinvented the LSM position as an offensive weapon. Stats are now kept on LSM. Battled through a medical redshirt to come back and lead the team. Every goal he scored seemed to trigger a victory. His one handed goal against Hopkins will never be forgotten.
Justin Blye, Fran Gormley, Eric Boyle, Warren Hansen, Shane Hall, Michael White, Warren Hansen
Thanks to everyone!!!
Finally, we have landed a gem in Coach Tillman.I am absolutely 100 % confident that the drought will end but just not today!!!!
