I’ve been a baseball guy my entire life. Was the Orioles’ Asst. P.R. Director (1976-79) when Earl was in the dugout and Hank Peters was GM. Three of the best years of my life. Watching what has happened under Angelos has been terribly painful. Buck has given me more hope than anybody in many years. I’ve been very interested to watch him handle the ups and downs of this year’s team. I watched the entire game last night and don’t blame Showalter one bit for the loss. It was Guthrie’s game to win or lose. Not only was L. Scott an embarrassment on the bases, his lousy throw to Jeremy at first allowed the bottom of the eighth to continue. THE JOKE IS THAT LAST I HEARD GUTHRIE WAS CHARGED WITH THE ERROR FOR FAILING TO CATCH THE THROW! Based on Buck’s answers to Gary Thorne’s post-game questions, my impression is that if Showalter had had a gun he might have used it on Scott. I can only imagine what Buck said to Scott behind the scenes. I know you think the Orioles are poised for another collapse. You may be right, but I hope you’re wrong.

at this time the orioles are basically 500 team give or take a game or two. thus you’ll find a few 3-4-5 game winning streaks mixed in with the same number of losing streaks. however i believe in the second half of the season you’ll find the o’s starters, most of whom are quite young and inexperienced, going deeper into games and saving the bullpen some wear and tear. hardy missed most of april, lee missed most of spring training and some of the season already, roberts has missed considerable time, matusz just made his first start of the yr. the hitting has been inconsistent as has the pitching and yet they are only what 3-4 or games under 500 with a nine game home stand coming up. remember teh orioles were one of the worst run sports franchises from the mid 80’s until angelos finally hired a real gm about 3-4 yrs ago. and allowed him to do his job. of course had he stayed with pat gillick in the mid to late 90’s we would be fine now but at that time angelos thought he was the baseball maven. but all in all after maybe 22 bad yrs since the mid 80’s it looks like the o’s are on “the improve” to borrow a race track term.
