That is correct —2013. Unbelievable!!!
While I was on vacation last week, high atop mountains communing with nature, intrepid IL reporter Ty Xanders nailed the big news that Inside Lacrosse’s No. 1 junior recruit, attackman/midfielder Matt Rambo (La Salle College, Pa.), has verbally committed to Maryland. With Rambo in the fold, here’s another look at the Terps’ Class of 2013:
No. 1 Matt Rambo, A/M, La Salle (Pa.)
No. 9 Connor Cannizzaro, A, Cazenovia (N.Y.)
No. 19 Mac Pons, D, Boys’ L atin (Md.)
John Belz, M, Calvert Hall (Md.)
Jake Clise, A, Loyola-Blakefield (Md.)
Dan Morris, G, Dallas Jesuit (Tex.)
Alec Dunn, D, Westminster School (Conn.)
Isaiah Davis-Allen, M, St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.)
Rambo and Cannizzaro should be a fantastic 1-2 punch on offense for the Terps once they arrive. Just looking at the recruit timing mechanisms, the goal here would be for these young shooters to supplement a peaking Class of 2011, ranked No. 1 by Inside Lacrosse in our most recent Recruiting Issue and featuring strong offensive players like Kevin Forster and David Solomon. That formula —talented freshmen helping juniors ready to explode— has won championships for other programs in the past. This should be a fine baseline for continued success for Maryland.
Two other notes about this class. 1) The Terps have a nice core of defensive talent in this class and 2) the Terps are going after some tough hotbed talent, hopefully firmly establishing their roots as the Free State’s flagship program.
Rambo’s commitment is another feather in the cap for Maryland head coach John Tillman, who continues to build his resume as a top recruiter. He had his hand in two major classes that hit campus in 2011 —No. 1 Maryland, No. 3 Harvard— and is keeping pace among his top 10 peers in attracting quality recruits.
