The Greatest Night Of Baseball Ever? —I Think So!!!!!

Yes it was the perfect storm. Of course the best part of it was that yes the Orioles played a major role in the dismantling of the Red Sox. what made it special was the timing of the endings and the improbabilities of the comebacks. Papelbon looked unhittable striking out AJ and Reynolds. But then the roof caved in on a team that has humiliated the O’s over the past decade. Let’s go back to July 8 when Francona found it in his mind to rub salt in the wounds of the O’s. The Red Sox were up 10-3 in the 8th based on a   8-0 lead in the first. David Ortiz swings for the fences at a 3-0 pitched then stares at his fly out and barely runs to first. Yea as usual the Red Sox were trying to show up the O’s . Heaven forbid you throw inside to a Bosox player.Kevin Gregg was incensed –screamed at Big Papi  and the brawl started. Catch the video.

“I think you show them that we’re not backing down. We’re not scared of them — them and their $180 million payroll,” said Gregg, who angered Ortiz with back-to-back inside pitches. “We don’t care. We’re here to play the game. We have just as much right to play the game here and we’re going to do everything we can to win.”

Well the Orioles didn’t forget and the bitterness ensued. The final result–the O’s take 5 of 7 and utterly ruin the Red Sox season. Nice work Francona. You have just presided over the biggest meltdown in baseball history.
