This comes as no surprise to me. Red Sox nation would never put up with this disastrous collapse. Second guessing is running wild throughout New England. Francona has to go –no chance of extending this failure. The sweetest night in baseball history has just taken a new victim. The Orioles stood tall, fought like warriors, WE ARE BACK!!!!! Every Oriole fans can feel it. Change is in the wind.
Article from the Boston Herald:
Don’t be surprised if Terry Francona managed his last game with the Red Sox [team stats].
The 2011 season was particularly trying on the two-time World Series-winner, who yesterday looked and sounded like a man in need of a break.
Management might not mind a fresh start, either, particularly after a 7-20 September that included the worst collapse in baseball history and showed cracks in Francona’s hold on a clubhouse that grew increasingly selfish. From pitchers drinking beer during games on their off days to Francona calling a team meeting after a 14-0 victory to address negativity and a lack of cohesion, perhaps both sides would benefit from a change after eight oft-outstanding seasons.
Francona looked weary at yesterday’s farewell press conference, and was noncommittal when asked if he needed time to sort out whether he’d return. “(GM) Theo (Epstein) and I talked today a little bit, and I think we’ll continue to talk tomorrow,” Francona said. “Maybe it’s best today to stay with where we’re at. It’s still pretty fresh and pretty raw. It’s a fair question. I just would rather focus on the other stuff today, if that’s OK. It’s a fair question.”

nothing like this news in the boston globe a far more respected newspaper than the boston herald. if tito leaves the sox and buck moves to the gm position francona would be a great choice as manager. he has won 2 world series as a manager. that’s 2 more than buck.
