Brenda does it again!!!!
Strengths: Footwork, rebounding, size for the position
Areas for improvement: Consistency finishing, mid-range shot, lateral quickness
The Bottom Line: Howard has made steady improvements in her game, most notably using her size on a consistent basis on the blocks, making her one of the premier posts in the class. She no longer avoids contact. Her fundamentals and footwork in the post are ahead of most of her peers. She starting to show the confidence it will take to reach her potential and be an impact player in college. She’s not the most athletic defender but her smarts improved conditioning allow her to pretty good defender, and perhaps more importantly she’s really productive on the glass, both offensively and defensively.
Spring Update-May 11: A 6-foot-3 post, Malina Howard began just outside our initial top 25 for the 2012 class. She then jumped to the 21st spot in the expansion to our Super 60 and has now broken into the top 10, landing at the No. 7 spot in our first ESPNU 100 for 2012..
