No sooner had CJ Brown begin playing in a seasoned, fluid manner in his first start then the speculation began on Danny’s potentiality for transfer. I’m talking about in the first half!!!! Is this the new QB mantra. Bench me and I’m leaving. Of course anything can happen but here’s why it is unlikely.
Danny O’Brien loves Maryland. He will graduate this spring and would be welcomed in graduate school for his last 2 years of eligibility. Thus whether or not the next level is his future, he could leave Maryland possibly with a masters degree.
Danny has not an ounce of quit in him. He will always be prepared and perhaps will storm back into the lineup if given a chance.
CJ’s success has been a surprise or else he would have been starting from the get go. However, teams will now scheme for his running options. This Saturday’s game against FSU will be a good barometer.
Believe me (and I hope it doesn’t happen) the first time CJ falters the fans will be screaming for Danny. Finally the Terps have depth at QB.
I know Danny well enough to believe that the undercurrent of speculation about a transfer pains him. Danny O’Brien was born to be a Terrapin. His career here is still in its beginning.

THE ABSURDITY OF DANNY O’BRIEN STAYING AT MARYLAND.
Edsall is NOT going to change the offense to suit Danny’s talents. This is Drill Sargeant Edsall’s first year and he is establishing his program. This is year one and he is laying a foundation for the future. That foundation includes the spread offense which favors a q.b. that can run the option well. Danny is a pro-style, drop back q.b. Danny doesn’t run well enough to execute the option effectively. If Danny has any aspirations to play football at the next level he needs to play in a pro style offense scheme. The only way that is going to happen is for O’Brien to transfer to a school that plays a pro style offense. If C.J. falters the the fans will yell for Danny..but don’t forget the fans yelled for Mike Leach to be coach of the team…the fans yelled for Jordan Williams to stay in school. Leach isn’t the coach and Williams is out of school. The fans are not going to dictate to Edsall how to run the football team. If that happened Edsall would wind up sitting in the stands himself. Which, by the way, is what a lot of fans would love. But that’s not going to happen…at least for a few years, if ever. If you remember last year Franklin would call some options play for Danny and he was horrible running those type of plays…as he was this year the few times he ran the option.

They just caught a team off guard. A team that had prepared for O’Brien.
Crowton was chased from LSU for a reason. O’brien being benched is absurd. A kid that consistent last year.
You can’t win if you can’t throw the ball. Brown CAN’T throw the ball. It is a Gimmick offense when he is in there.
It’s embarassing.
And, all the depth at QB means nothing, if you don’t even have 1 legit starter at any other position in the field.
It ain’t gonna be much prettier next year either I’m afraid. Edsall’s militaristic archaic policies and attitude is not going to be able to get the players that you need to win consistently.
No one is going to come to MD to be a sheep, when you need to stand out to make MILLIONS of bucks in the NFL.
At least Ralph got this, and put more players in the NFL than any other ACC school aside from Miami.
The defense is so terrible, and has been since Jenkins, Starks, Merriman, and all those guys were here.
We are just a weak program now.

I Watch CJ in Highschool Football and basketball. Kid is a competitor. Just glad he got recognized and not buried.
CJ Passes better then people think, started to show it last few games. Danny looked good coming in and showing nice touch on Florida State!
