Next Man Up—CJ Brown Takes The Helm of The Terrapin Offense

The timing is perfect for CJ. As Brian Billick always has said football is about the next man up. The coaching staff has presented CJ with a Freshman package the likes of which Maryland has never seen. Add to that the key returning players that have bought into Edsall’s system. The real problem now is not transition at QB. CJ is a born leader, will get tons of reps, and is unquestionably QB1 for 2012. Stefon Diggs will present a whole new dynamic to our offense. More then just a 5 star recover, Stefon is a physical banger whose Yac will be a guaranteed factor in our lineup. Wes Brown–just watch the tape. The real problem will be the offensive line but our new OC, Mike Locksley has 7 months to deal with that situation.

Stefon Diggs, Wes Brown, Mike Maderas, Kenny Goins, Albert Reid and the rest of the 2012 recruiting have a great chance to carve their niche in Terrapin history. Randy Edsall has kept his cool under the adversity of 2011. I firmly believe that like his mentor Tom Coughlin, RE will weather the storm and get Terrapin football back on the winning track. Randy is a tireless worker and loves the University. I remain 100% in support of him and so should all Maryland faithful.

As for Danny O’Brien, there is no secret I really like this kid and am upset that he is leaving. I just don’t understand why. The tools that were missing have arrived under Edsall and his staff’s tremendous recruiting acumen. I grew fond of Danny over the past 3 years and wish him well.

But let’s be really clear—no single football player is above the team. CJ has run the team and will do a superb job. CJ is a super young man with tremendous leadership characteristics. I anxiously await the 2012 season!!!

So much to say re Edsall and O’Brien.
First of all last year the coaching staff seemed to me, realized that they did not have the personnel to run a pro offense. Weal OL as well as inadequate receivers. So they ran the spread.
Dan was terrible. He had no pocket presence and threw more off target passes and interceptions than previously. He was basically neffective excep for when they fell far behind and the defenses softened against him.
The outside perspectives on him will show how highly he is regarded, when we see who recruits him now and where he ultimately winds up.
I like the athleticism and leadership of CJ.
But am concerned about a back up QB.
Look for a transfer in soon.
It is a shame because the wolves will be watching and attacking the program next year, unmercifully and it is going to take time to incorporate so many new and talented newcomers in impact positions.
    Very difficult and volatile situation.

though i expect several of the incoming freshman to play significant minutes next year you can’t have any real expectations. it is much harder to project high school football players to college than basketball players. the college game is much more physical and played at a much faster pace. if md is lucky a couple of the freshman will play well but it takes time for kids to adapt to the college level mentally and physically. that’s why most freshman are red shirted. they need a year in the weight room to allow them to better compete against older, more physically gifted experienced college players. maryland will probably have trouble with their offensive line and have no accomplished running backs returning. you have a qb with some experience and zero winning starts as a college qb. hard to imagine maryland having a winning record next year. and if that is the case the hate the coach blogging will continue. i took only a couple of days of good publicity with diggs’ signing to turn to negative with the 3 transfers of yesterday. anything negative about the program will be magnified and anything positive will probably be minimized by the media and blogggers. not just but what the reality is.
