Trap game—definition–When undefeated #4 Maryland travels down 95 to UMBC and faces a strong UMBC squad that has experienced 2 brutal losses. The Terps though dominated at the face-off position still led at halftime by a 5-2 margin. After 3 periods the Terps, were up 6-3 but somewhere in the pit of my stomach I knew this game wasn’t over.
The Retrievers after goalie Adam Cohen stopped Owen Blye, proceeded to score 5 unanswered goals to lead 8-6 with 5 minutes left. At that point Coach Zimmerman put the ball into the deep freeze. Maryland continued to fight led by Jesse Bernhardt’s valiant play —-stole the ball 4 times but was only able to convert 1 into a goal by John Haus. Adam Cohen stopped several shots down the wire to preserve the 8-7 victory.
No rest for the weary as undefeated Marist comes to College Park Saturday at 1 PM. The Terps need to put this performance behind them and bounce back Saturday.
